Phanuel is the name given to the fourth angel who stands before God in the Book of Enoch (ca. 300 BC), after the Angels Michael, Raphael, and Gabriel. Phanuel (Hebrew: פְּנוּאֵל ). Alternative names are Panuel, Paniel, Peniel, Penuel, Fanuel, and Feniel. Phanuel is recognised by many practitioners as a female angel, whose name means "The face of God”.
Phanuel is reputedly a member of the four Angels of Presence. She is also considered to be the ruler of the Ophanim. In 1st Enoch, she is also listed as an Angel of Exorcism (she is heard "expelling Satan"). Phanuel has also been linked with the Angel of Penance mentioned in the Shepherd of Hermas.
In the Jewish tradition, she is known as the Angel of Exorcism and is invoked in cases of demonic possession. While the Christian tradition does not retain this, she is instead given the title Angel of Repentance and is said to be the guardian of those who seek to turn away from evil and do good.
