The Book of Melchizedek

Melchizedek, a figure shrouded in mystery, appears in biblical scripture as the king of Salem and a priest of the Most High God. His encounter with Abraham is significant; offering bread and wine, he blesses him, symbolizing divine favor and the establishment of a spiritual covenant. Melchizedek’s dual role as both king and priest foreshadows the coming of Christ, illustrating the intertwining of royalty and spirituality. His legacy resonates through religious traditions, representing righteousness, peace, and the eternal priesthood. This enigmatic character invites contemplation on spirituality, authority, and the divine connections that transcend time.

Who was Melchizedek? Was he an angel? Was he a priest? For those that have tried to answer this question, it appears to be one of the many secrets of the Holy Scripture, some conclusions can be deceiving. Melchizedek, also spelled Melchisedech, in the Old Testament, means “My King Is [the god] Sedeka” . He was a figure of importance in the Biblical tradition because he was both King and Priest, was connected with Jerusalem, and was revered by Abraham.

So was he a model for Christ? We cannot be sure. The next consideration is, was Melchizedek an angel? Was he created like the angels of heaven? Remember angels have no genealogy, just like Melchizedek, but they do have a beginning, for God created the angels.
